East End Community Arts - Breakthru Theatre

East End Community Arts has been involved with this quite remarkable theatre company for approximately 9 years.

Founded by Christina Mckelvie, Alexis Harvey and a client group with learning difficulties, the Breakthru Theatre Company focused on drama activities and has grown from strength to strength since its successful premier performance of The Jabberwocky in 1990.

These early productions were performed around Christmas, to an invited audience of family and friends. The convention of the annual show was thus established and a unique and very special theatre company was born.

This vibrant company has continued to thrive largely due to the enthusiasm and complete commitment given by the company members to both drama and the production of their annual show.

In recent years Breakthru has widened its client involvement. Historically the drama company only had members and participants from the Accord Day Centre. We would not be fulfilling the Breakthru's aims and basis of the organisation if we did not widen the involvement.

Breakthru Theatre Company is now a cast of 20 adults with learning difficulties from the Accord and Tollcross centres and independent clients and volunteers. They took part in our fabulous production of Aladdin at the Mitchell Theatre on April 29th April 2004 (See Photographs)
